About US 5 Year Treasury Note Futures
5 Year Note Futures are traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Each contract is for One U.S. Treasury note having a face value at maturity of $100,000. Prices are quoted in Points $1,000 and quarters of 1/32 of a point.
U.S. Treasury notes with an original term to maturity of not greater than 5 Years and 3 months and a remaining term to maturity of no longer less than 4 years and 2 months as of the 1st day of the delivery month. The invoice price equals the futures settlement price times a conversion factor, plus accrued interest. The renovation factor is the price of the delivered note $1 par value to yield 6%.
Take part in 5 Year T-Note futures allows a trader to assess directionality of interest rates as well the ability to hedge risk at the midpoint of a yield curve. Participating in 5 Year T-Note futures can also allow one to use a variety of trading strategies like spread trading and trading against different Treasury futures.
5 Year Note Futures contracts exist for the months of March, June, September, and December quarterly cycle.
